introduction

This is where you will introduce your PCD… the purpose of your PCD and what you thought of the PCD… It is the start of something that you will be able to use for the rest of your life and that you will hopefully refer back to and use often. Good luck and make sure to have fun! This is for you... to help you!!! Enjoy it!

Beliefs

This is part one of your PCD… you are now on your journey to yourself… in this part you will introduce your top beliefs… Have fun!

EXAMPLE (beliefs)

This is not a religious course. Your beliefs do NOT have to be centered on the church. Having said that, as members of the church you are most likely to have a number of beliefs that are based on the church’s teachings.
The list below is to just give ideas of what can be on your beliefs list. Your beliefs can come from your religious background, home teachings, environmental lessons, life lessons, etc. The sky is the limit here.

Mentors

This one is about a mentor… you will introduce your mentor and why they are your mentor and what they mean to you!

EXAMPLE (mentor)

Mentor Interview
One of my mentors that I chose to talk with was my mission president, President Higham. I was planning on attending a mission reunion last weekend, but had some family plans come up unexpectedly and wasn’t able to attend, so this was a great opportunity to talk with my mission president.
My schooling is almost done and my general career path I have already chosen so we didn’t talk a whole lot about that. I did mention how I was a bit discouraged that it was so difficult trying to find an internship and wondered if I would be able to find a job after college. He said that it is a difficult time for construction right now, but said when he had just graduated from law school the economy was also bad. He was able to find an entry level job and by the time the economy picked up, he was advancing and well on his way. He said that it may also be a good time because if I can get in then I will be in a good place when the economy picks up.
I asked him what was the most important achievement or what has brought him the most joy and he said that it would definitely be the gospel of Jesus Christ and his family. We discussed this a little, because this is one of my goals I still need to achieve—finding a wife and starting a family. He told me about how he met his wife and qualities and things he was looking for. I asked how he knew that she was the one, and he told me that they both had the same kind of background, goals, desires, and enjoyed being together. He said when he prayed about marriage, the answer wasn’t that she was “the one”, but that they would be very happy together. He said this was very comforting and gave him the courage to move forward.
After I had asked my questions of him, he asked me a question. It wasn’t a question I had given much thought to at all and caught me off guard. I tried to think of some things and came up with a couple answers hurriedly, but he quickly helped me see that one of them wasn’t that important. He asked me to give it some more thought, come up with the three answers, set goals of what I can do in the next 90 days to work towards those goals, and then also send him a copy. I think perhaps the reason his request caught me off guard was because I have always set goals for the foreseeable future, or just the typical mormon ones, like go on a mission, get married in the temple, raise a righteous family, etc. I’ve fulfilled a mission (although I plan on serving another later in life), I’m near being done with school and starting a career, I’m and still looking for a wife. My goals have focused on the things I foresee, like finishing school, getting a good rewarding job, finding a wife, having a family, and living happily ever after. His challenge made me look from the point of view at the end of my life and who I want to be there, then to work towards that. His question was, “What three things do you want to be known for or have written on your gravestone.” While I was pondering on this question, I went on to the next assignment of creating a board of directors. While doing this I was able to think of some of my heroes from the scriptures and the things that were said about them that I would like to be said about me.

Board of Directors

This is where you will put your Board of Directors. This is different than the Mentor, this involves more people, and why you chose them to be on your Board… Good Luck and be creative

EXAMPLE of Board of Directors

This is just an example of how to do the Board of Directors… there are many different ways to do it so DO NOT just fill in your info over this one. Be creative and original. Also make sure you make it clear who is at the head (both ends) of the table…

YOU

This section is all about YOU!! There are guidelines but it is still all about you! This is an important piece because it will help you understand you better…

Values

This is the 4th part of your PCD!! This section is about your Values! These should be your top, most important values!

EXAMPLE (Values- positive affirmations)

A former student allowed me to use her document as a sample, I have added the word Weak and Strong to let you know what a weak positive affirmation statement is versus a strong statement. DO NOT submit weak statements. I have added comments in Purple Italics to the weak statements to let you know why I find them weak statements.

Goals

This is where you will talk about your “goals”… good luck!

EXAMPLE (goals)

Values are the choices and the way you perceive actions you take in certain situations. Values are what give us a big distinction between animals. Being able to see and feel the difference between good and bad, or even the right thing in a not so clear way are values. Would you steal to feed your family? Would you kill one to save one hundred? These questions are just a few that you can ask yourself to see the values you have. There is no right answer so the right response is the one you feel best about.
Here is the EXAMPLE for the GOALS section… NOTICE that the Value is pulled from the belief and the Goal is pulled from both… You will do great… Just remember that this is YOU, this PCD represents you… so be honest, work hard on it, and make it so you are proud of your work

Changes

This is where you will discuss your “switch points” and other such influences in your life. You will include influential people, changing points, and how you will make it your own! This is the 2nd to last part~ YOUR ALMOST FINISHED!

Mission Statement

This is the second to last part of your PCD for this class… Hopefully you will continue to look at it and improve it throughout your life! GOOD LUCK!!!!

EXAMPLE 1 & 2 (mission statements)

These are 2 examples of how you can write your “Mission Statement”… Do not copy these, you need to do your own work and make it work for YOU! There will be a few more examples as well.

EXAMPLE 3 (mission statements)

This is example #3… There will be one more after this… remember, make it reflect you and something you will strive for… its kind of like a Motto that you live by.

EXAMPLE 4 (mission statement)

This is the last example of Mission statements I am going to make a post about… for another example, read the poem, “The Touch of The Masters Hands”.

My Song

In this section you will choose a song that represents your Mission Statement. There is no need to post the lyrics of the song, but feel welcomed to if you would like. Just make sure that your song matches and represents your Mission Statement.
